Smiles for Life at Gustafson and Morningstar DDS

How often do you really get a chance to do something wonderful and easy for yourself - and make a positive difference in somebody else's life at the same time? Here's one of those chances.

Through June 30th, Crown Council dentists such as Drs. Gustafson and Morningstar donate their time, Discus Dental donates the whitening materials, your smile is professionally whitened at a deeply discounted fee (donation), and seriously ill, disabled, and underprivileged children in our community (and around the world) get 100% of the proceeds.

It's really a great cause. Call us today at 248.541.8770 to schedule an appointment, because there are kids waiting for you to whiten your smile!

Ask the Royal Oak Dentists: Why is a straight, beautiful smile so important?

Some people wonder why our team at Gustafson and Morningstar Family Dentistry work so hard to give our patients straight and gorgeous teeth. Of course it’s nice to have a smile full of evenly aligned pearly whites, but did you know that straightening your teeth can keep them healthier? Straight teeth also lead to better oral hygiene, increasing your chances of keeping your own natural teeth for a lifetime.

Straight teeth are less prone to decay, because they collect less plaque—the sticky colorless substance that forms on our teeth and leads to tooth decay. And they are easier to keep clean! Combining experience with advanced education and personal care, Drs. Gustafson and Morningstar, as well as our dedicated staff, strive to bring you only the best dental treatment options available in Royal Oak.

If you haven't been in for a check-up this year, please give us a call to set up an appointment. Drs. Gustafson or Morningstar look forward to seeing you! Have a great weekend!

May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month!

Did you know the month of May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month? In 1983, President Reagan encouraged Americans to include more physical activity into our lives, and the reminder is even more important today as more people are more distracted by television, social networking and working more hours. Living an active lifestyle can and does improve physical and mental health, productivity and overall well-being. The best part? It doesn’t have to take a lot of time or effort.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has provided these public health guidelines for your reference. The guidelines call for people to exercise one hour every day of moderate intensity physical activity (such as playing sports or brisk walking) or one hour and 15 minutes of vigorous activity (jogging, jumping rope or dancing).

At Gustafson and Morningstar Family Dentistry, we always encourage our patients to exercise or participate in sports. However, we want to remind you to always wear a mouth guard or other forms of mouth or facial protection - trust us, there are plenty - when doing so. To learn more about how often you should exercise, we recommend you check out these helpful tips, courtesy of our friends at the American Heart Association.
